HOW TO REDUCE TOXINS IN YOUR LIFE
Share

We’re exposed to more than we realize - from the clothes we wear to the air we breathe. And while it’s impossible to control everything, small, conscious shifts can have a powerful ripple effect.
The goal isn’t to do it all at once or perfectly. It’s to start with what feels possible, and build from there - one gentle step at a time.
We’ve gathered a few shifts that have supported us on our own journey - simple, thoughtful changes that continue to shape how we live and care. Quiet ways to reduce everyday toxins, without adding stress or pressure.
Think of this as a soft invitation, not a checklist.
1. CLOTHING - ESPECIALLY UNDERWEAR & ACTIVEWEAR
Clothing often contains chemicals like:
• PFAS (used for water and stain resistance; linked to hormone disruption)
• Azo dyes (some are carcinogenic)
• Formaldehyde (used for wrinkle resistance; an irritant and probable carcinogen).
Because sweat makes skin absorb more, pieces worn close to the body - like
underwear and activewear deserve extra care.
What to do:
• Choose organic cotton, TENCEL™ or wool
• Look for GOTS, OEKO-TEX®, or Bluesign® certifications
• Invest in timeless, high-quality pieces that last
2. FOOD & DRINKS
Pesticides and chemicals in food can disrupt hormones and affect health.
• Prioritize organic options for foods consumed daily.
• Focus especially on fruits and vegetables with thin or edible skins (like berries, apples, spinach, and tomatoes).
•Select organic or responsibly farmed meat, eggs, and dairy whenever possible, as these products minimize exposure to pesticides, antibiotics, and added hormones, and originate from animals raised under higher welfare standards.
• Always wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly to help reduce pesticide residues.
Look for KRAV, EU Organic, USDA Organic, or Fairtrade labels. Buying local and seasonal reduces environmental impact.
3. KITCHEN MATERIALS
Plastic containers and non-stick cookware can release harmful chemicals that disrupt hormones and may affect health, especially when heated or worn.
Choose safer options:
• Glass or stainless steel containers
• Cast iron or ceramic-coated pans
• Untreated wooden utensils and cutting boards
4. CLEANING PRODUCTS
Many cleaners contain VOCs, synthetic fragrances, and hormone disruptors that can irritate your lungs and affect health.
Better choices:
• Eco-certified brands (EcoCert, Nordic Swan)
• Transparent ingredient lists
• Natural alternatives like vinegar, baking soda, and castile soap
5. SKINCARE & HAIRCARE
Skin absorbs what you apply - especially after bathing or sweating. Some ingredients can disrupt hormones or irritate sensitive skin.
Avoid: parabens, phthalates, PEGs, and synthetic fragrances.
Choose: products with short, transparent ingredient lists scented only with natural essential oils or unscented.
6. CANDLES
Paraffin wax candles can release soot and VOCs, while synthetic scents may pollute indoor air and trigger sensitivities.
Safer alternative:
• 100% beeswax candles with cotton wicks
• Naturally scented or unscented
• Bonus: beeswax emits negative ions that may help purify air
